The campaign for washing hands is a global effort that has resulted in thousands of advertisements, posters, workshops emphasising on the importance of keeping your hands clean. Although Sri Lanka has not been the target of the flood of hand washing campaigns it’s important that our children know the importance of washing hands. Even as adults we are not aware of the shocking facts behind dirty hands, even when they look clean.

"Amma I don't want to go to school" screams Amila, tears pouring down his face, and heaving for air. Beside him Mrs. Mendis looks helplessly at her husband and shakes her head. Both parents look tired and weary from trying to persuade 12 year-old Amila to get ready for school. The Mendis' are perplexed and can't understand how a boy who was okay to go to school, is now crying breathlessly and cooking up fake tummy aches just to avoid school. The big question that both parents were dealing with at the same time was what happened to their little boy!?
